9 to 5 the Musical!
Rehearsals have started for our 2023 production.
9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie.
Set in the late 1970s. this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?
TAOS will be performing Monday 11 September 2023 to Saturday 16 September 2023 at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought online through Ticket Source (link below) or at the Tourist Information Centre at Tiverton Museum.

Made in Dagenham Tickets on Sale Now
Get ready to join the picket line and get behind fair pay for females at Ford as the Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society (TAOS) return after two years with Made in Dagenham.
The musical, which will be performed at the New Hall from September 12 to September 17, follows Rita O'Grady who works for the Ford Motor Co. plant in Dagenham, England. Despite performing the specialised task of sewing upholstery for car seats, women are classified as unskilled labour and paid much less than men. Encouraged by a sympathetic union representative, Rita agrees to bring the women's grievances to Ford.
The meeting goes badly and, outraged by the company's lack of respect for them, Rita leads her colleagues to strike. Chair of TAOS Pauline Farr said: “We can’t wait to get back to performing at the New Hall after two very long years since our last successful production of Anything Goes. This is the first time Made in Dagenham has been performed in the town and the cast have been working hard to produce a polished performance we hope people will come and enjoy. The members can’t wait to welcome back audiences again, so make sure to get your tickets early, and support your local theatre group.”
The show takes place September 12 to 17, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £11 and concessions £10. Contact the box office on 01884 254818 or head to Twyford Print, Bampton St, Tiverton.
Made in Dagenham Launch Night
Join the cast of Made in Dagenham and sing along with the story of the Ford sewing machinist’s strike of 1968.
The Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society were due to perform the musical in 2020, but like many other groups, had to endure a two-year hiatus.
Now rehearsals are once again starting with a launch night on Friday, February 4, at Aston Manor, Howden Road, at 7.30pm.
The musical, which will be performed at the New Hall in September, is based on a true story, exploring the movement that caused a significant law reform.
Rita O'Grady (a fictional character) leads the 1968 Ford sewing machinists strike at the Ford Dagenham plant, where female workers walk out to protest sexual discrimination, demanding equal pay.
The strike drew major attention around the world because it was considered contrary to women's traditional family roles. The successful strike led to the Equal Pay Act 1970.
Pauline Farr, chairman of the society, said: “We look forward to welcoming anyone interested in finding out more, to come to our launch night on Friday.
“It’s been a long time since we were able to enjoy a rehearsal, and we cannot wait to get back to doing what we love.”
